Ensure that both computers are connected to the
Internet. You don't need the Internet to set up a home network, but it's the
only way to do it without physically connecting both computers to each other.
- 2
Click the "Start" button.
o 3
Click "Control Panel."
- 4
Select "Network and Internet."
- 5
Click "Network and Sharing Center."
- 6
Find the link to "Set up a connection or
network" in your left sidebar.
- 7
Click "Set up a wireless router or access
point" to bring up the wizard.
- 8
Select your preferred settings and follow the
instructions given in the wizard pop-up box. Make sure that your network
location type is set to private, or anyone can access your files by using your
Internet connection. Set file sharing and printer sharing to "On."
- 9
Repeat the above steps for the second computer.
This step may be unnecessary for computers running Windows 7, but you'll need
to do it for any computer running Vista or XP.
